ERBIL – The People’s Protection Units (YPG) will open an official office in Prague in the Czech Republic next Sunday, Kurdish officials told ARA News.

Kurdish officials from the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) arrived in Prague on Wednesday to prepare the opening of the official office there.

“Ebdulkarim Omar the Foreign Affairs minister of Cizira Canton [Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province] and YPJ leader Nasreen Abdullah are visiting Defense Ministry officials of Czech Republic to make some agreements,” said Idris Nassan, a former Kurdish official from the Kobane canton administration.

“This is the first official military visit to a foreign country,” Nassan told ARA News.

According to Kurdish officials, previous visits of the YPJ and YPG to France, Czech republic, and Italy were more symbolic, while this one is deemed official.

“This is our second visit to Prague since September; we were invited by the official commission of the Defense Committee of the Czech parliament,” Kurdish PYD official Sherwan Hassan told ARA News on the phone.

“We will open an official representation office for the YPG and YPJ in Prague next Sunday. We see this as an official recognition to the Syrian Kurds,” he added.
