Hasakah, Syria – On Sunday, a car bomb attack hit the building of the Criminal Security branch in the neighbourhood al-Nashwa eastern the city of Hasakah, northeast of Syria, killing a member of the pro-Assad security forces and injuring several others.

In the meantime, a car (type Van) belongs to the Popular Protection Units (YPG) –military arm of the Democratic Union Party (PYD)– was attacked by gunmen on the side of Geweran neighbourhood, which falls under the control of Ahrar Geweran armed group, near the Beiruti bridge checkpoint, activists from the area told ARA News.

Local sources reported that several hand grenades were thrown from the gunmen’s car at the checkpoint where the YPG-held car was pounded with lots of bullets, resulting in the explosion of the car and the death of the attackers.

This comes as three mortar shells hit the city of Hasakah, causing the injury of four civilians and damage of residential buildings in Tel Hajar neighbourhood. Reportedly, the mortar fire was launched from the southern countryside of Hasakah which is controlled by militants of the Islamic State (IS).
