PYD-led Auto-Administration obliges Syrian Kurdish parties to ask permission for activities

Hasakah, Syria – The Interior Council of the Democratic Auto-Administration (established under the leadership of the Democratic Union Party “PYD” and some allied parties in northern Syria) in al-Jazeera Canton (Hasakah Province) gave a deadline to the Kurdish parties in the province until August, 17, 2014 to apply for a license from the specialized institutions of the Auto-Administration.

The Assayish forces (security arm of the PYD) informed a number of offices of the Kurdish parties in cities of al-Jazeera Canton that they are obliged to submit requests for license and exercise their political activities according to the law issued by the Auto-Administration (which is designed for the political action in the province).

The General Administration of Assayish forces in Rojava (Syrian areas where Kurds constitute a majority) issued a statement on Friday, saying: “On the basis of the decision of the Interior Council in al-Jazeera province, we hope you (Kurdish Parties) apply requests for license at the Parties License Committee of the Auto-administration in the city of Amude (20 km west of Qamishli city). The legal limit allowed for the submission of applications for licenses is August 17, 2014.”

The Assayish leadership vowed the Kurdish political parties of carrying out any activities in northern Syria before receiving “official permission” from the PYD-led Auto-Administration.

The statement stressed the adherence to the time limit, pointing out that each violation of the resolution will require the adoption of legal procedures and appropriate action against the parties concerned.
