Deir ez-Zor, Syria Syrian regime forces continued heavy artillery shelling on the neighbourhoods of Deir ez-Zor city, east of Syria- from their strongholds in the military airport, the officers’ housing and al-Jora.

Civil activist Fayz Abdulaziz told ARA News that Hawayj Thyab district in Deir ez-Zor environs was heavily shelled by mortars from Brigade 137, coinciding with early morning bombings by rocket launchers.

The neighbourhood of Hawiqa in Deir ez-Zor, on the other hand, saw fierce clashes between rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and pro-Assad military forces.

The clashes caused the death and injury of some members of the pro-Assad army, who then withdrew from Hawiqa and headed to al-Arid River road.

In a relevant context, local activists from Deir ez-Zor told ARA News  that al Qaeda splinter group of the Islamic State (IS) –previously as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)– executed two of its members under pretext of “forsaking Islam”.

Khalid Abdosh, a driver working on the western environs road, witnessed the execution of IS members that took place on al-Bsera road in Deir ez-Zor suburb.

In the same context, following its control on the 17th Division of the Syrian army in Raqqa province, the Islamic State reportedly executed dozens of regime soldiers in al-Naim square in central Raqqa.

FSA-linked sources reported to ARA News: “Following the orders of Iranian officers who lead most of the battles in Syria, especially in the northeastern areas, the Assad regime surrendered Raqqa to IS militants.”

Division 17‘s battle was merely a trick to distort facts before the regime proponents,” the same sources added.

In similar development, the Syrian regime reportedly handed over some neighbourhoods in Rif Dimashq (Damascus countryside) to IS group “to reduce its burdens by opening a front between IS and FSA rebels”, according to local sources.

The Islamic State fully controlled on Friday the Syrian army Division 17 in Raqqa, which was the regime’s last stronghold in the province, following intensive clashes for two days.
