Dozens killed in clashes between Syria Kurds and Islamists

Kobane, Syria – The Media Center of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) released on Sunday an official statement talking about the death tolls in its ranks during recent clashes with militants of the Islamic State (previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant ‘ISIL’) in northern Syria.

“15 fighters from the YPG forces were killed in Zor Maghar village after fierce battles with al-Qaeda offshoot group of the Islamic State,” Media Center of the Kurdish YPG forces said.

The statement pointed out that the ISIL group used tanks, mortars, artillery 57 and all kinds of heavy weapons (brought from Iraq) during their attacks on the western countryside of Kobane, stressing that “the YPG forces were able to kill more than 130 ISIL militant, and destroy two tanks with a military vehicle”.

The YPG (military arm of the Democratic Union Party ‘PYD’) has revealed the names of four of its fighters who were killed in recent clashes with ISIL group in Zor Maghar village , announcing the names of 11 other fighters, including two fighters from Turkey (Heavi Anyo and Shervan Botan).

The statement, of which ARA News received a copy, also revealed the name of an Arab fighter in its ranks. Rustum was killed in the recent battles.

Meanwhile, local sources told ARA News that al-Qaeda offshoot group of the Islamic State has slaughtered one civilian from al-Bayadiya village (which is under ISIL group’s domination) in northern Syria.

Activists in Kobane city also told ARA news that the ISIL group slaughtered Marwan Jazairi, 47, who had worked as a driver with the YPG forces, after storming the village in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Militants of the Islamic State controlled on Saturday three Kurdish villages in the western countryside of Kobane, including Zor Maghar, al-Bayadiya and al-Ziyara, amid a huge wave of displacement among civilians from these villages towards Kobane and Turkish territory, local sources reported.
